Matthew is the Handbell Director for First Congregational Church. He is an active composer of handbell music, with nearly 70 pieces in print or accepted for publication. At 35 years old, Matthew is one of the most published handbell composers under age 40. He was the winner of the 2005 Bells of the Sound Competition Contest, winner of the 2011 FebFest Composition Contest, and received an honorable mention in the 2006 SoundPrint Handbell Composition Contest. Matthew is also one of the few specialists in long-form handbell compositions. His works have been featured at numerous regional, national and international handbell festivals, as well as performed by ensembles in more than a dozen countries.
